Short answer
A geographical indication records that a product was made by a method tied to a specific place. It is not a quality ranking: it protects the method, the ingredient ratios and the link to the region. In Türkiye the records are verifiable at the TÜRKPATENT portal.
Türkiye uses two forms. A “designation of origin” requires every production stage to take place in the region. A “geographical indication” requires only that at least one stage be tied to it; method-based records such as Adana Kebabı usually fall into this second group.
Registration does not claim that a product is delicious. What it states is concrete: which ingredients, in what ratio, by what method. The certificate is a record of a recipe, not a review of a restaurant.
If you want to know whether a dish is registered, the TÜRKPATENT geographical indications portal is the primary source; EU-level registrations also appear in European Commission records.
